In Michael Cera’s newest movie, “Youth in Revolt”, he stars as–are you ready?–an awkward teenage boy who has a crush on a girl. MTV hires Luxurious Animals to design and animate the titles for the broadcast promotions. The commercial needs to speak to the MTV audience, the troublemakers who would watch “Youth in Revolt”. Therefore, we designed a style that spoke to the youngins, mixing in the the collage effect, hand scribble text treatment, table-top look with a little bit o’ retro feel. Yes these titles are just screaming acne cream, cracking voice, and school dances where girls stand on one side of the room, boys on the other.
